What is FRINGE WORLD?

FRINGE WORLD is a summer celebration held in Perth and Western Australia each year. 

It’s the largest annual event in WA and the third largest Fringe in the world. The 2020 FRINGE WORLD Festival will run for 31 days from 17 January to 16 February.

The program of events is all about variety and offering something for absolutely everyone. The line-up includes comedy, circus, free and family entertainment, theatre, visual arts, musicals, dance and cabaret presented by Western Australian artists along with performers from all over the world.

We’ve been entertaining the people of Perth with Fringe entertainment since 2011 and we can’t wait to see the city come alive again in 2020!​

What shows are in the Festival?

The shows in the Festival offer something for everyone with comedy, caberet, theatre, music and musicals, children's events, circus and more on offer for you to enjoy.

FRINGE WORLD is an open-access Festival, which means anyone can participate and it's up to the artists to decide to be part of the Fringe.

The Festival is a big platform for local artists, with more than 70% of participating artists coming from WA, alongside performances by artists from Australia and all over the world.

FRINGE WORLD is proud that since 2012 more than $46 million has been paid out to participating artists and arts companies by the Festival. This is all thanks to the hundreds of thousands of customers that see their shows each year!

The Festival supports its artists through a range of initiatives including an Awards program that is one of the most generous of any festival in the world. Donations to the Fringe Fund help to support the FRINGE WORLD Awards and help our artists shine.

What venues are in the Festival?

The 2020 Festival will be held from 17 January to 16 February at more than 150 venues all over Perth and regional WA. 

FRINGE WORLD is produced by ARTRAGE INC, a not for profit registered charity. ARTRAGE INC directly a number of venues in the Festival such as the main Hubs in Northbridge and Perth CBD i.e. The Woodside Pleasure Garden, The Ice Cream Factory, Girls School, the pop up venues at FRINGE Central in The Perth Cultural Centre and the pop-up venues at Yagan Square.

The other venues in the Festival are independent and not directly managed by FRINGE WORLD. The venues include traditional theatre and performance spaces, alongside quirky and non-traditional spaces that are activated for the month of Fringe festivities.

Who produces FRINGE WORLD?

FRINGE WORLD is produced by ARTRAGE INC, a not for profit registered charity whose purpose is to enrich and evolve the culture of Western Australia. ARTRAGE INC was founded in 1983 and is one of the oldest arts organisations in WA.

Alongside producing FRINGE WORLD, ARTRAGE INC also produces and manages a number of other arts and entertainment enterprises including Rooftop Movies and Girls School Cinema.

I'm an artist. Can I perform in the Festival?

FRINGE WORLD is an open-access Festival, which means that artists from anywhere in the world can register to be part of the event.

I'm a venue manager. Can my venue be part of FRINGE WORLD?

FRINGE WORLD is an open-access Festival and there are a number of ways that Perth venues can be part of the event. Venues, like artists, need to register their interest with the Festival.

At the conclusion of the 2019 Festival, we invited all audiences to complete our survey, which was an opportunity to provide comprehensive feedback. Key results and findings of this survey are then referred to by our team in the planning and development of future festivals. We also publish highlights from all Festival surveys in our annual Impact Report.

Buying, collecting and postage of tickets

How can I buy tickets?

Buy your FRINGE WORLD Festival 2020 tickets online from this website by browsing the Shows, adding tickets for the shows you want to see to your Cart and completing the online checkout process. Click here to begin browsing the 2020 shows.

Can I collect tickets from a FRINGE WORLD Box Office?

When purchasing tickets from this website choose Collect at Box Office to be able to collect the tickets from one of our FRINGE WORLD Box Offices, please click here for locations and opening times. 

When collecting your tickets from the Box Office please bring your Transaction ID (you can find it on your Order Confirmation email).

If you are unable to pick up the tickets yourself, a friend or family member may collect them for you, as long as they have your Transaction ID.

If you are collecting tickets to see a show that night, we recommend you allow at least 60 minutes in order to queue for your tickets at the Box Office and find your venue.

Can tickets be mailed to me?

Yes!

To receive your tickets in the mail by Christmas, we recommend placing your order by 5pm Friday 6 December.

If you’re purchasing tickets at least 10 business days in advance of the show, you can choose to have your tickets posted to you for $3.50 for Standard Post or $6.50 for Registered Post. We strongly recommend choosing Registered Post as we are unable to reprint lost tickets. If choosing Registered Post, you will need to sign on delivery and your tracking number will be emailed to you. Please allow up to 10 business days for delivery and check the address you have provided is correct.

FRINGE WORLD cannot be held responsible for tickets lost in the mail via Standard Post. Please read our ticketing T&Cs for more information.

What fees will I be charged when buying tickets?

A $2.20 website transaction fee is applied to every purchase made online through our website. Payments made at a FRINGE WORLD Box Office attract no transaction fees.

FRINGE WORLD Friends

What is the cut-off date for becoming a Friend?

FRINGE WORLD Friends is an annual subscription program and the benefits for 2020 Friends run until 30 September 2020.

What are the benefits becoming a Friend?

FRINGE WORLD Friends will receive some magical treats in 2020!

When are Friends Frenzy tickets available?

Friends Frenzy 30% off select tickets are available 17 October to the end of the Festival on 16 February 2020 or until the allocation is exhausted.

Gift Vouchers

Christmas delivery of Gift Vouchers

To receive your tickets in the mail by Christmas, we recommend placing your order by 5pm Friday 6 December. Alternatively, you can select to send a digital gift voucher and schedule it to send to the lucky recipient on Christmas Day. You can also purchase Gift Vouchers from Yagan Square Box Office open everyday from 9 Dec – 24 December. Click here for opening times. 

How do I redeem my Gift Voucher?

If someone loves you enough to give you the adventure of Fringe this year, you'll need to redeem your voucher as soon as you can to make sure you get the pick of the shows before they sell out! Here's how to redeem your voucher:

  • See what's on - what do you want to see? When you've chosen, add the ticket to your cart as normal.
  • When you checkout you'll see a box asking for your voucher number. This is a 16-character voucher code beginning with 0623.

  • Don't forget to accept the terms and conditions before moving to the next page.
  • If the gift voucher isn't equal to the cost of your tickets, you can pay the remainder by credit card.

FRINGE WORLD Gift Vouchers are valid for ticket purchases and Friends subscriptions from the date of issue to 23:59 on Sunday 16 February 2020. Balances remaining on gift vouchers after this expiry date will be forfeited and are not further redeemable.

What happens if I forget to send my Digital Gift Voucher?

If you forget to enter the recipient’s email address on the ‘Order Success’ page, you can go back to your account page and send it from there.  

When does my Gift Voucher expire

FRINGE WORLD Gift Vouchers purchased during the 2020 Festival can be used for ticket purchases and Friends subscriptions during the 2020 Festival only. Balances remaining on gift vouchers after February 16 will be forfeited and are not further redeemable.

Exchanges, refunds and lost tickets

Can I get an exchange or refund?

Before completing your purchase of tickets, please carefully review the show, date/time and venue details. Without limiting your statutory rights under Australian Consumer Law, there is no right of refund or exchange on FRINGE WORLD tickets. If a show has been cancelled, you are entitled to a refund.

What if my tickets are lost or stolen?

We recommend you treat your tickets like cash because we are unable to reprint lost or stolen tickets.

Most venues don’t require you to have a printed ticket to gain entry to the show. Simply show your Order Confirmation email on your mobile device to venue staff on arrival.

Shows at the following venues do require you to have a printed ticket: 

  • His Majesty’s Theatre 
  • State Theatre Centre 
  • The Regal Theatre 

If you had a printed ticket for a show at one of the above venues and have lost it, please email hello@fringeworld.com.au at least 72 hours before your show.

Concession prices

Is there a special price for kids?

Some shows may have special ticket prices for children such as: 

  • Kids Ticket prices - For children 12 years and under who will occupy a seat. Children ages 2 years and under are free on lap.
  • Family Ticket prices - A discounted ticket pack covering 2 Adult and 2 Children or 1 Adult and 3 Children. Please enter '4' tickets when purchasing 1 Family Ticket.

Are there concession prices?

There aren't any specific special prices for Concession cardholders with the exception of Companion Cards. Please click here for more information on Companion Card tickets.

Venues and seating

Can I smoke in any of the venues?

All indoor performance areas are smoke free. 

Can I choose where to sit when buying my tickets?

Most seating is unreserved and is filled on a first come, first serve basis when you arrive at the venue. It is recommended you line up early for a good spot.

Become a Fringe Friend and secure a Skip the Line Multi-Pass to get the best seats in the house!

I have tickets to two shows in one night. Is there enough time for me to get from one venue to another?

We have many different venues throughout the city, in the ‘burbs and beyond so please make sure you allow yourself extra time to get from venue to venue. 

What time should I arrive for my event?

Should I arrive early?

Most shows are around 60 minutes in length. This is also the ideal time to arrive pre-show.

Allow at least 60 minutes before the show to find a park or make your way from your public transport stop, collect your tickets from a Box Office (if required), find your venue and grab a pre-show drink or meal.

A queue will form outside your venue before show time and most shows have unallocated seating, so line up early to get your pick of the seats.

Age suitability

What does the suitability of events mean?

All (General)
Suitable for all ages. Kids, parents and grandparents alike will enjoy this event. Does not contain any sensitive content like nudity or coarse language. 

PG 
Parental guidance recommended. For children’s events there are additional age ranges for some shows.

M
Mature audiences. Recommended for people over 15 years old but subject to parental discretion. Events that contain some adult content but are suitable for teenagers aged 15 and up. 

18+
Recommended for people over 18 years old. Events that contain nudity, coarse language, sexual references or depictions of violence are generally considered to be suitable for adults only

18+ (restricted)
Restricted to people over 18 years old. Events that contain nudity, coarse language, sexual references or depictions of violence are generally considered to be suitable for adults only and patrons will be expected to be able to provide photographic ID. 

I'm under 18, can I go to a FRINGE WORLD event?

Many FRINGE WORLD venues are licensed and you may be asked for valid Photo ID to gain entry. In some instances, under 18's are welcome to licensed areas but must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian and the decision to allow entry is entirely at the discretion of the licensee. Each venue can have different licensing conditions so please check the venue license rules on our website before purchasing a ticket. 

Note that some events are restricted to over 18s only – look out for “18+ (Restricted)” in the Age Suitability section.

Always check the ‘Content Warnings’ on each page before purchasing a ticket as we cannot offer a refund when admission is refused by the venue.

What are valid forms of ID when attending 18+ licensed FRINGE WORLD venues?

The valid forms of Photo ID accepted in Western Australia are Passports, WA Photo Cards and Australian Driver's Licenses only (i.e. the following are not accepted: student cards, foreign driver's licenses, health care cards, credit cards).

Camera and Photography

Will my photo be taken at the Festival?

Your photo may be taken at a Festival event or venue. Refer to our Terms & Conditions for more information. 

Can I take photos during the show/performance?

Only at the discretion of the performers, otherwise cameras or other photography or recording equipment (including mobile phones) may not be permitted to use at the event.
