FRINGE in the time of Corona. What'll it be like?

Western Australia is in good shape and all signs are pointing to a great FRINGE WORLD Festival 2021.

Things will be a bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions, but there’s still going to be plenty of shows to see and the Festival will be a safe and welcoming environment for Westralians to enjoy.

Here’s answers to some questions about the 2021 Festival and email us at hello@fringeworld.com.au with any further queries.

What shows will be in the Fringe?

The first tickets go on sale 12 November and we can’t wait to reveal what's in the Festival.

As an open-access Festival artists from anywhere in the world can register and participate, but due to the border restrictions we are currently only accepting registrations from artists that are already in WA and interstate artists will be able to participate in the Festival as soon as they get their Good-to-Go pass to enter WA.

This means that some Festival tickets may go on sale a bit later than normal, but you can look forward to the first FRINGE WORLD tickets in November and you’ll be able to get them from this website or via our new FRINGE WORLD app (available 12 November).

Ok, so it sounds like the Festival will be smaller than before?

The 2021 Festival will still be a big smorgasbord of shows for you to choose from but yes, it’ll be a bit smaller than last Fringe.

There will still be a wide range of venues to visit all over Perth metro area including the return of two big hubs in Northbridge: The Woodside Pleasure Garden and Girls School.

What about COVID-19?

Thanks to the border control measures by the state government and all the sacrifices that our community has made, WA and the 2021 Festival are in good shape.

That said, we do have protocols in place in the outside chance that an event or the Festival will need to be cancelled.

If an event is cancelled due to COVID-19 you will be refunded the ticket, or you will have the option to donate the price of your ticket to the artist who is presenting the show. FRINGE WORLD Friends subscription will be refunded if the Festival is cancelled or you will have the option to revert your subscription to the 2022 Festival. We will soon be releasing information regarding our policy for customers who can’t attend a show due to illness.

The hygiene and safety all FRINGE WORLD patrons, artists and staff is held with the utmost importance, and the Festival management team have developed an in-depth COVID Event Plan in consultation with the WA Department of Health, WA Department of LGSCI, City of Perth and the LPA.
